Dr. Al-Ashaab is Reader in Lean Product Development, the leader of the LeanPPD Research Group and a Course director of the MSc in Global Product Development and Management at the Manufacturing Department of Cranfield University. He was the technical coordinator of the LeanPPD European project and Set-Based Design and knowledge management expert in the TSB-CONGA project “Configuration Optimisation of Next Generation Aircraftâ€. His research projects have a strong focus on industrial applications. His research career started after he obtained PhD from Loughborough University in 1994. He then worked at ITESM Campus Monterrey in Mexico from 1994 to 2000 where 50% of his time was spent working with Mexican Industry in applied research. He has 25 years of teaching experience in Mexico, Colombia, France and UK. Dr Ahmed Al-Ashaab is the author/co-author of more than 100 research papers published in major international journals and internationally refereed conferences. He has supervised over 100 Masters and Doctoral theses. He has been collaborating with many companies such as Rolls-Royce, Airbus, Visteon, JLR, VW, Sitech, Indesit, MOOG, Caltec, CEMEX, Paxton and GETRAG.

Dr. Mourad received his BSc degree and his M.Sc. degree (1989) in Mechanical Engineering from Helwan University. In 1991, he got a scholarship (INDO/ARE Cultural Exchange Program) under which he earned his PhD degree (Fracture Mechanics and Fatigue) from the IITB in 1996. He was promoted to the assistant professor rank in 1996. In 1998 was invited as a visiting scholar to the Ohio State University, USA. In September 2000 he joined the UAEU as assistant professor. In September 2003 he was promoted to the associate professor rank at Helwan University and in 2005 promoted to the same rank at the UAEU. In 2007 he was invited as a visiting scholar to the IITB. His main research areas are, Materials characterization, fatigue and fracture, stress analysis, stress corrosion cracking, FE method, failure analysis and prevention, durability and degradation of materials, FSW and FSSW, tissue engineering, biomaterials and nanotechnology. He has supervised 24 MSc and PhD theses and led as a PI and CO-PI 22 funded research projects that resulted in more than 100 papers.
