Professor Wu, currently, is Academician of Academia Sinica, and Distinguished Chair Professor of National Yang-Ming University in Taiwan. He was a pioneer in biophysical approach to molecular biology, best known for his work on presenting biophysical evidence of the 4-step mechanism of gene transcription, and the discovery the presence of zinc ions in eukaryotic transcription factor TFIIIA, the first example for the class of proteins known as zinc finger proteins. After returning to Taiwan Professor Wu made many important contributions to the studies of cancer metastasis in lung cancer, and of acute and chronic Lung injuries such as ARDS and COPD, two of the serious health threats to the Taiwanese population, with important clinical significances. Recently, he is interested in applying stemness concept for analyzing tumor progression in lung cancer as well as gene and stem cell therapies of lung injuries. He leads an inter-disciplinary and inter-collaborative molecular imaging and nanomedicine research program that utilizes multi-modality molecular imaging approaches to study cancer biology and therapeutics, including molecular imaging of Immune cell-based cancer therapy. Dr. Zweit is internationally recognized for his work in molecular imaging of cancer drug development, and conducted the â€œworldâ€™s firstâ€ Molecular PET Imaging clinical trial of Anti-angiogenic therapy in cancer patients (Journal National Cancer Institute 2002& 2006). Professor Zweit serves as an advisor on a number of national and international committees. He serves on the review body of a number of funding organizations, both in North America and Europe. He has published more than 150 peer reviewed articles, over 250 conference abstracts, in addition to review articles and book chapters. Pavan Kumar Puvvula completed his PhD at the National Center for Cell Science, Pune, India and received a post-doctoral training in the field of small noncoding RNAs at the Rockefeller University, USA. He started his career as a Research Assistant Professor in University of Utah and later joined as a staff scientist at Geisinger Clinic, Danville, Pennsylvania. Currently his research work mainly focuses on cellular senescence, aging and cancer. He identified critical involvement of lncRNAs and RNA-binding proteins in cellular senescence and demonstrated their therapeutic potential for various types of cancers.
